How to use Pure Essential Oils During the Three Trimesters of Pregnancy

Aromatherapy, and the use of pure essential oils is a beautiful and supportive therapy for both mother and baby. It can provide an enriching dimension to a woman’s experience during this time and ease her discomfort while reducing stress levels.

*They are not to be consumed and nor should they be put directly onto the skin. No essential oils are to be applied to the body during the first three months.


Morning Sickness:  Add 2 of drops Lime and 1 drop of Mandarin to 100 ml spray water bottle. Shake well to disperse the oils. Spritz into surrounding air avoiding eye area. Shake well before each use.

Or dispense a drop of each on a tissue and inhale at intervals for relief.

Emotional Support: Diffuse 1 drop each of Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Mandarin for one hour intervals to calm and soothe mind and body.

In Essence Tip: Use Jojoba oil as a daily moisturiser during the whole term of Pregnancy to promote elasticity and nourish the skin.


Recommended oils include: Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Neroli, Mandarin, Lime and Orange.

Daily Diffusion: Create a relaxing environment for you and your unborn child. Choose 3 drops in total for 1 hour intervals.

Aromatic Bath: Enjoy a relaxing bath with Lavender and Roman Chamomile to help soothe and relax the body while preparing for sleep. Combine 1 drop of each in 1 tsp of base oil before adding to bath water.

Weekly Massage: Continue to moisturise each day with Jojoba.

Lower back pain: Compress Frankincense, Jasmine and Lavender (1drop of each) on lower back to help relieve the discomfort of contractions.
